St. Andrews, which is the home to Scotland's oldest university and most revered golf course, thirty miles northeast of Edinburgh, has served as the location for the British Open at various times in the past.
"The Athens of the North," Edinburgh is adorned with some of the finest Grecian buildings found anywhere. The Greek revival lasted here longer than in the rest of Europe.
Famous Festivals
Together with Glasgow, Edinburgh dominates the arts scene in Scotland. Each August the Edinburgh Festival, which is the world's largest arts festival, draws more than one million visitors.
Go wild at Hogmanay, Europe’s largest winter festival! Hogmanay is a New Year's Eve celebration that continues through January 6th. The 150,000 tickets for the New Year's Eve celebration are free but are in great demand and necessary for admittance.
